Tokyo Compression: The daily commute
German-born Hong Kong-based photographer Michael Wolf is renowned for his large-format images of dense Hong Kong architecture, but his 2010 series Tokyo Compression examines another highly condensed city from another angle: its commuting residents.
Tokyo Compression captures the nightmarish extremes of the local commuting experience. With limbs tangled, and condensation dripping down windows almost tear-like, the intensity of the images is hauntingly Goya-esk.
